Pre-polishing ductile materials for metallographic inspection: technical issues

Currently, in the vast majority of cases, pre-polishing ductile materials is a long and expensive process, carried out using a series of SiC abrasive papers of different grits. The disadvantages of this technique are as follows:
– Need to change grits to prepare the surface for polishing
– Very short and inconsistent life of abrasive papers,
– Significant handling,
– High long-term cost,
– Significant amount of waste.
The new CAMEO®DISK DMD pre-polishing disc allows high material removal and low roughness to be achieved in a single step without the use of SiC paper.
